The Northwood University women's soccer team earned a 5-0 win over Lake Erie Sunday afternoon (October 14).
The game was held at the Midland Community Soccer Complex due to poor field conditions at Dean Field on Northwood's campus.
The Timberwolves are now 6-6-1 overall, 6-3-1 in the GLIAC. Lake Erie falls to 3-10-1 overall, 2-6-1 in the GLIAC.
The stars of the game proved to be Northwood's star forwards Alyssa Tomassi (Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower) and Amanda Watson (Oregon, Ohio/Clay). The duo scored all five goals in the contest and alternated scoring each goal. Tomassi scored the first, third and fifth goal, while Watson netted the second and fourth goal. Tomassi now has 13 goals on the season, while Watson stands with nine goals and four assists.
For the game, Northwood finished with a 13-6 advantage in shots overall. The Timberwolves also had the only corner kick in the game. Senior keeper Rebecca Lipinski (Shelby Twp., Mich./Eisenhower) made four saves to earn the clean sheet.
Northwood will host Saginaw Valley State Friday afternoon (October 19). Game time is set for 2 p.m.
