Women's Soccer Falls 6-1 At Grand Valley State In GLIAC Quarterfinals

The Northwood University women's soccer team saw its 2012 season come to an end with a 6-1 loss at No. 6 Grand Valley State Tuesday afternoon (October 30) in the quarterfinals of the 2012 GLIAC Tournament.

Northwood finishes its season 6-10-1 overall.  GVSU, the top seed in the Tournament, improves to 16-1-2 with the win.

Grand Valley State scored in the 6th minute and never looked back.  The Lakers also added goals in the 17th and the 24th minute to earn a 3-0 lead at the break.  Grand Valley State out-shot Northwood 15-1 in the opening half.

GVSU made it 4-0 in the 52nd minute before the Timberwolves got on the board.  Senior Amanda Watson (Oregon, Ohio/Clay) took a penalty shot, which she converted for her 11th goal of the season.  The goal is also the 55th of Northwood career, easily the most in school history.

The Lakers added goals at 65:08 and 86:26 to round out the victory.

For the match, GVSU finished with a 31-7 advantage in shots and a 14-3 edge in corner kicks.  Freshman keeper Julie Shields (Berkley, Mich.) made a career-high 20 saves in the loss.
