Women's Soccer Runs Away With A 4-1 Win Over Michigan Tech

RECAP: Women's soccer hosted their final non-conference matchup of the 2024 regular season Tuesday (September 17). Northwood welcomed Michigan Tech to Midland with a convincing 4-1 runaway win. Northwood tallied four goals, all in the second half.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Michigan Tech dominated possession in the first half holding possession and outshooting the Timberwolves 12-3 with a 4-0 advantage on corner kicks. Although, Northwood's defense held up to go into the half tied 0-0.
  • Northwood flipped the script in the second half offensively. Adyson Gorzelski put NU on top 1-0 in the 49', heading Carly Boyd's corner into the lower right corner. This was Gorzelski's first career goal.
  • Less than a minute of game time later (50'), Northwood added its second goal of the match. Boyd led Ashtyn Lange with a pass down the middle to give her a one-on-one opportunity with the goalie, which she capitalized to make it 2-0. This was Lange's first career goal.
  • In the 55', the Huskies cut the lead in half 2-1 as a mistake in Northwood's goal resulted in an own goal for NU.
  • Northwood didn't shy away, owning four more shots before Kendall Buchman's shot was saved and deflected to Ava Kettler who looped it over a backpedaling goalkeeper to extend Nu's lead back to two, 3-1 NU. This was Kettler's first career goal.
  • Up 3-1 in the 80' Lange laced one off the crossbar, which was deflected to Grace Weitzel for her second goal in as many games, 4-1 NU.
  • Northwood's four goals in the second half led them to a 4-1 win over Tech. This marks the first win over Tech since October 19, 2019 (1-0) and the largest margin of victory over the Huskies in program history.
