Women's Tennis Claims GLIAC Tournament Championship

The Northwood University women's tennis team claimed the 2012 GLIAC Tournament Championship Sunday afternoon (October 28) with a 5-4 win over Grand Valley State.

The Timberwolves, which also claimed the GLIAC regular season title, finishes the fall with a 17-0 record.  GVSU finishes the fall 15-3 overall.

Northwood got the first point of the day at No. 1 doubles thanks to an 8-3 win by Susana Alcaraz and Nastya Puchkina.  That victory ran the duos doubles record to 17-0 in dual matches.  NU also won at the No. 2 position, while the Lakers won at the No. 3 slot to send the match to singles with Northwood leading 2-1.

The two teams would split the six singles matches in relative quick fashion, as all six matches were determined in straight sets.  The Timberwolves earned wins from Alcaraz from the top position, Ayana Kobayashi at the third flight and Puchkina at the fifth slot.

The Timberwolves have now completed their fall season.
