Women's Tennis Opens GLIAC Tournament With 5-0 Win Over Ferris State

The Northwood University women's tennis team opened the GLIAC Tournament with a 5-0 win over Ferris State Friday night (October 25).

The event is being held at the Midland Community Tennis Center.

The Timberwolves, who are the top seed and the GLIAC Champions, improve to 15-0 overall with the win.  Ferris State, the No. 8 seed, falls to 7-8 overall with the loss.

NU opened play by winning all three doubles matches.  The Timberwolves posted an 8-4 victory at the No. 1 position and an 8-3 victory at the No. 3 slot.  The match at No. 2 was tight, but Northwood pulled out a 9-7 win to go up 3-0 heading into singles.

Needing only two wins to close out the match, NU posted straight-set wins at the top-two positions to earn the sweep.

Northwood will take on Grand Valley State in the semifinals tomorrow. Match time is set for 3:45 p.m.
