Women's Tennis Advances To GLIAC Tournament Finals With 5-1 Win Over Grand Valley State
The Northwood University women's tennis team advanced to the GLIAC Tournament finals with a 5-1 win over Grand Valley State Saturday afternoon (October 26).
Northwood, the GLIAC Champion and No. 1 seed in the event, improves to 16-0 overall. GVSU falls to 13-4 with the loss.
The Timberwolves came out of double with a 2-1 lead after some tight matches. After Northwood went up 1-0 with an 8-4 victory at No. 3 singles, the Lakers leveled the score with an 8-6 win at the No. 1 slot. With the score level at 1-1, NU came up with the big points down the stretch of the No. 2 match, winning 9-7 and earning a 2-1 lead heading into singles.
Northwood came out strong in singles, taking three matches rather quickly. NU won two of the matches in straight sets and the other one by retirement with Northwood leading 6-4, 4-0.
The Timberwolves now advance to the finals tomorrow morning (October 27) at 8:30 a.m. Northwood will face second-seeded Wayne State for the GLIAC Tournament title.
