Tennis Teams Earn ITA Academic Recognition
MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University tennis teams earned recognition from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, as both the men's and women's teams were placed on the ITA All-Academic Teams.
In addition, a total of nine student-athletes were named to the Scholar-Athlete list.
On the men's side, Northwood is one of 46 teams to earn the honor. A total of six student-athletes earned the ITA Scholar-Athlete award - Austin Woody (Midland, Mich./Dow), Felipe Crema Batistella(São José dos Campos, Brazil), Henrik Hellbe (Stockholm, Sweden), Konstantin Zhukov (Kazan, Russia), Salikh Gilmutdinov (Kazan, Russia) and Tanini Kader (Obertshausen, Germany).
The women's team is one of 73 teams to be named an All-Academic Team. Three members of the team are on the Scholar-Athlete list: Anastasia Puchkina (Seversk, Russia), Anastasiia Kazub (Ozery, Russia) and Anna Aniskina (Odesa, Ukraine).
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2014 and spring 2015).
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
