David Anderton Named Head Men's & Women's Tennis Coach
MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University athletic department has announced the hiring of David Anderton as head coach of the men's and women's tennis programs.
Anderton takes over for Raul Quevedo, who resigned earlier this summer.
"We are thrilled to bring a coach of David's caliber to our university," said Northwood Athletic Director Jeff Curtis. "He brings a wealth of experience at many highly-successful programs. I am confident he will continue the proud tradition of Northwood tennis."
Anderton comes to Northwood after spending the 2025-26 season as the Associate Head Coach for the Western Michigan men's program. He helped lead the Broncos to the 2026 Mid-American Conference Championship. It was Anderton's second stint at Western Michigan, as he was an assistant coach for both the men's and women's programs in 1998-99. WMU won MAC Championships on both sides in the 1999 season.
In his coaching career, Anderton served as the head coach at the University of San Diego for the men's program from 2007-09. He led the Toreros to the WCC finals in 2009, during which Dean Jackson earned All-America honors. He also spent time at Alabama (1999-2002) and the University of Miami (2003-07, 2025) as a women's assistant coach. While at Miami, the Hurricanes earned a final national ranking of #4. Three Hurricanes earned the No. 1 ranking in singles (Megan Bradley, Audra Cohen, Alexa Noel), with Cohen and Noel going on to win NCAA singles titles.
"I am extremely fortunate and excited to begin my tenure at Northwood University," said Anderton. "I would like to thank AD Jeff Curtis and the entire hiring committee for this opportunity to lead this program. Looking forward to building new relationships and helping this program continue the rich tradition and success of these programs"
The Northwood tennis teams have won a combined 40 conference championships and earned 47 NCAA Tournament appearances.
