Track & Field Teams Take Part In Mike Lints Alumni Open
The Northwood University track and field teams took part in the Mike Lints Alumni Open Friday night (January 18).
No team scoring was taken at the event, which was hosted by Grand Valley State University.
Madison Pines turned in Northwood's top result of the night, earning an NCAA provisional mark in the mile run. Her time of 5:01.17 placed her sixth overall out of 38 competitors and broke the NU school record of Kielen Cieslak (5:03.35) from 2009. Lauren Gagnon also earned an NCAA Provisional at the meet, clocking a 17:31.33 to place second overall. Teammate Danielle Miller was fourth in the 5,000, running an 18:03.57. NU also turned in a pair of strong performances in the 400, with Marsadie Cinato (59.86) and Kaleigh Theriault (1:00.34) placing fourth and fifth, respectively.
On the men's side, Northwood's 4X400 meter relay team registered an NCAA Provisional mark. The team of Jacob Hurrell, Travis Blunt, Doug Lander and Enock Rono clocked a 3:15.91 to place second overall out of 19 teams. NU finished just .01 behind the first place team from Grand Valley State. Rono also earned a win the 600 meter run with a time of 1:18.33. Travis Blunt was second in the 400 with a time of 49.63, while Matt Williams clocked a 1:56.64 to place second in the 800. Silas DeKalita was third in the 5,000 with a time of 15:33.94.
Northwood will compete at the Cardinal Open next Friday (January 25).
