The Northwood University track and field teams competed at the DII Team Challenge Saturday afternoon.
The event was hosted by Lake Erie College and was held at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio
On the men's side, Northwood placed fifth overall with 50 points. Tiffin was the overall winner at 93.5, followed by Malone at 68. A total of 21 teams took part in the event. The top performance for the men's team came from the 4X400 meter relay team of Jacob Hurrell, Travis Blunt, Doug Lander and Enock Rono. They clocked an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the event, beating out 24 other teams with a time of 3:15.42. Their time currently ranks them eighth nationally. That time also breaks the old Northwood school record in the event of 3:15.49, which had stood since 1982. Korvon Harris took home first place in the 60 meter dash, clocking a 6.94 to beat out a field of 50 runners. Daniel Capek was third in the weight throw with a toss of 53-11. The women's team placed eighth out of 23 teams with 31 points. Tiffin was the winner with 98 points, followed by Winston-Salem St. at 64. Like the men's team, leading the way for Northwood was a performance in a relay. The team of Brittany Robichaud, Marsadie Cinato, Brittany O'Hora and Madison Pines earned the victory in the distance medley with an NCAA provisional qualifying time. They ran a 12:07.06 to win by 12 seconds. That time also shattered the old Northwood school record of 12:29.34 in the event. Lauren Gagnon also turned in an NCAA provisional qualifying mark in winning the 5,000. Her time of 17:29.34 won the event by over 13 seconds and is her second NCAA provisional mark this season (3,000). Pines added a strong individual performance as well, placing fifth out of 52 runners in the 800 with a time of 2:19.10.
Northwood will compete at the GVSU Big Meet February 8.
