Men's & Women's Track Begin Indoor Season At SVSU Holiday Classic

The Northwood University indoor track and field teams opened the indoor portion of their schedule at the SVSU Holiday Classic Friday night (December 6).

No team scoring was taken at the event, which featured athletes from Northwood, Saginaw Valley State, Alma College and Central Michigan.

On the men's side, sophomore Enock Rono (Eldoret, Kenya / Universal) earned a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the 800 clocking a 1:53.84. Korvon Harris (Detroit, Mich. / Northwestern) earned a victory in the 60 meter dash, clocking a personal best to beat out 20 competitors. Harris also finished first in the 200 with a time of 22.41. According to Northwood's head coach, Jamie Moreno, "His time of 6.90 in the 60 was .01 off of provisional for nationals and his 200 time was .11 off of provisional as well!" NU also earned a top finish in the 4X400 meter relay. The winning team of Wally Clay (Grand Blanc, Mich. / Flint Southwestern), Jordan Fields (Lauderhill, Fla. / Blanche Ely), Jacob Hurrell (Cadillac, Mich. / Cadillac) and Rono clocked a 3:17. 

The women's team also saw first place finishes in multiple events. Coach Moreno indicated that "our women had some solid performances as well with Elaina Meadows (Schoolcraft, Mich. / Schoolcraft) winning the long jump in 5.13 meters in her first collegiate competition." Danielle Miller (Clinton Twp, Mich. / Fraser) extended her success from cross country onto the track, winning the 3k "easily", according to Coach Moreno, with a time of 10:25.31. Madison Pines (Troy, Mich. / Troy) also picked up a victory in the 800, clocking a 2:20.92.

Northwood will compete at the Mike Lintz Open at Grand Valley State on January 17.
