Women's Track Competes In Mt. SAC Relays

RESULTS

WALNUT, CALIF. Three seniors on the Northwood University women's track team traveled to California for the 56th Annual Mt. SAC Relays at Hilmer Lodge Stadium in Walnut, Calif.

Two school records and three NCAA Division II provisional marks were set in the meet for the Timberwolves. Northwood proved its presence, as all three runners are currently ranked in the top 15 in the country in their respective events.

Danielle Miller (Clinton Twp, Mich. / Fraser) competed in the 10,000 meter run at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif. this past weekend. Miller's time of 35:12.03 is good not only for a new school record (previously set in 2009 by Kylen Cieslak - 35:36.08) but is also the seventh fastest 10k time in the country for Division II. Miller knocked more than two minutes off her personal best time and was more than a minute and a half faster than the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time.

Madison Pines (Troy, Mich.) participated in both the 1,500 and 800 meter runs. Pines' time of 2:15.53 is just shy of the 2:14 provisional qualifying mark. She now holds the top two times in Northwood history, behind her previous record set in 2012 (2:11.86). The third best time is held by Hannah Stone, set in 2010 with a 2:15.95. In the 1,500 meter run, Pines' 4:30.87 is also the next best time to her current school record of 4:29.46. Stone again is now third at 4:34.57 (2010). Pines now holds not only the fastest time in the conference, but is also ranked 11th in the country.

Kelsey Burgess (Byron Center, Mich. / Grand Rapids South Christian) ran the 3,000 meter steeplechase. Burgess breaks her personal and previous school record (11:10.62), set last year. With the time of 10:58.38, Burgess is now provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships. Sitting at No. 3 in the GLIAC, Burgess also holds the 14th best time in the country.

According to Northwood head coach, Jamie Moreno, The Mt. SAC Relays is a "huge meet with some of the best runners in the country", including three Timberwolves.

Northwood will compete in the Gina Relays at Hillsdale College next weekend (April 24-26).
