Volleyball Earns Dramatic 3-2 Comeback Win Over #19 Ferris State

The Northwood Timberwolves volleyball team earned a dramatic, come-from-behind 3-2 win over No. 19 Ferris State Friday night (September 14). Set scores were 15-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25-21, 19-17.

The match was the GLIAC opener for both teams. Both squads are now 6-3 on the season.

The Bulldogs were the better team the opening two sets, finishing with 25 kills and just four errors en route to a 2-0 lead. The Timberwolves had 25 kills and 17 errors in the first two sets.

Northwood got things going in the third and the fourth. NU had 32 kills and nine errors, while FSU had 21 kills and six errors. The fourth set in particular saw both teams hit at a high efficiency rating. Both squads hit .400 in the frame - Northwood had 18 kills and four errors on 35 attempts, while Ferris State had 14 kills and two errors on 30 attempts.

The final set was tight throughout. Both teams had multiple match points – (FSU – 3, NU – 2). The Timberwolves claimed the win on back-to-back kills by Juliia Pakhomenko (Donetsk, Ukraine) to win the fifth 19-17.

For the match, Northwood hit .198 (66-32-172) while FSU finished at .279 (51-13-136). NU held a 14-5 advantage in aces.

Three Timberwolves finished in double figures in kills, led by Pakhomenko at 17. She finished with four aces and 15 digs to go with a .286 attack percentage. Zina Liubymova (Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine) and Tajana Rajic (Belgrade, Serbia) each added 14 kills. Jordan Dunn (Bowling Green, Ohio) had 48 assists, five kills and a .625 attack percentage.

Northwood will host Grand Valley State Saturday afternoon (September 15). Match time is set for 4 p.m.
