Volleyball Sweeps Walsh 3-0
The Northwood University volleyball team posted its sixth straight win Friday night (September 28), sweeping Walsh 3-0. Set scores were 25-23, 25-14, 25-17.
Northwood improves to 11-3 overall, 6-0 in the GLIAC. Walsh falls to 3-8 overall, 1-5 in the GLIAC.
The first set was tight throughout – the score was tied 23-23 in the final moments. But the Timberwolves took the final two points of the set to earn the 1-0 lead. NU hit .351 in the opening set (19-6-37).
The Timberwolves dominated the final two sets, starting in the second when Northwood hit .286 (12-4-28) while holding the Cavaliers to a -.103 mark (5-8-29). NU's offense got even better in the third set, finishing at .462 (13-1-26).
Overall, Northwood hit .363 (44-11-91) while holding Walsh to a .111 clip (28-18-90). The Timberwolves also finished with a 41-35 advantage in digs and a 7-5 edge in aces.
Northwood's top two players, Zina Liubymova (Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine) and Juliia Pakhomenko (Donetsk, Ukraine) each once again had big matches. Liubymova had 12 kills on 19 attempts, good for a .579 attack percentage (12-1-19). She also shared team-high honors in digs with eight. Pakhomenko added 12 kills on 27 attempts to finish with a .296 attack percentage (12-4-27) to go along with three blocks. Jordan Dunn (Bowling Green, Ohio) finished with 24 assists and six digs.
The Timberwolves will travel to Malone Saturday afternoon (September 29). Match time is set for 2 p.m.
