Volleyball Splits Pair At GLIAC/GLVC Crossover

The No. 25 Northwood University volleyball team went 1-1 on the opening day of the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge Friday afternoon (Oct. 12).

NU's nine-match winning streak came to an end with a 3-1 loss to Bellarmine (25-21,20-25, 25-16, 25-22. before defeating Missouri S&T 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-18).

The Timberwolves are now 15-4 overall on the season.

Northwood, which is hitting .246 on the season, held in check against Bellarmine. The Knights hit .211 (56-24-152) while holding the Timberwolves to a .182 clip (47-23-132). Juliia Pakhomenko (Donetsk, Ukraine) led the way for Northwood, finishing with 16 kills, 13 digs and two aces.

The NU offense got going in the S&T match. Northwood finished at .325 overall, finishing with 50 kills and 10 errors on 125 attempts. Pakhomenko finished with 13 kills and 12 digs in the victory. Kristin Perschon (Schaumburg, Ill./Conant) added 13 kills and three blocks while hitting .600. Ally Hoomaian (Novi, Mich.) finished with 11 kills and zero errors on 20 attempts (.550).

Northwood will finish the event Saturday (October 13) against Rockhurst. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
