Volleyball Loses At Findlay 3-0
FINDLAY, OHIO – The Northwood University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match at Findlay Saturday afternoon (September 20). Set scores were 25-20, 25-22, 25-13.
Findlay improves to 7-2 overall, 4-0 in the GLIAC with the win. Northwood is now 3-5 overall, 0-4 in the GLIAC. NU's four conference opponents (Northern Michigan, Michigan Tech, Hillsdale, Findlay) have combined to start GLIAC play 15-1 overall.
A late push by the Oilers in the opening set was the key to Findlay taking a 1-0 lead. Northwood led 17-14, but UF scored 10 of the next 11 points to go up 24-18 before eventually taking the set 25-20. Findlay hit .220 in the set (15-6-41) while the Timberwolves finished at .132 (11-6-38).
Northwood got off to a fast start in the second set as well, leading 7-2. Findlay fought back with five straight points to level the score at 7-7. The score was eventually tied 21-21 when the Oilers finished strong once again. Findlay earned four of the final five points to take the set 25-22 and go up 2-0 in the match.
After dropping a couple of tough sets, the Timberwolves did not have much left in the third, as the Oilers took control right from the start. Findlay scored the first seven points and eventually opened up leads of 12-3 and 20-7 on their way to the sweep.
Northwood finished the match hitting .071 (32-25-99) while Findlay registered a .319 mark (40-10-94). NU had a 40-39 edge in digs, but the Oilers held a 10-5 advantage in blocks.
Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) led all players with 13 kills. Freshman Sydney Greulich (Kitchener, Ontario/St. Mary's) added six kills for the Timberwolves.
Northwood will host Lake Superior State Tuesday night (September 23). First serve is set for 7 p.m.
