Volleyball Drops 3-0 Match To Ashland
MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 match to Ashland Saturday evening (September 27). Set scores were 28-26, 25-18, 25-17.
Northwood falls to 5-6 overall, 2-5 in the GLIAC. Ashland improves to 4-7 overall, 4-3 in the GLIAC.
The opening set proved to be the key to the match, as it appeared the Timberwolves were on their way to a 1-0 lead thanks to going up 23-18. But Ashland responded after a timeout, scoring the next five points to level the score at 23-23. Northwood had a pair of set points but did not convert, giving the Eagles the set by the score of 28-26. The Timberwolves had three more kills (13-10) and had one fewer attack error (8-7) in the set, but serving cost NU the lead. Ashland had four aces and just one error while Northwood finished with zero aces and six errors.
Ashland used a late run in the second set as well to go up 2-0. The score was tied 17-17 when the Eagles took over, scoring eight of the final nine points to win the set 25-18. Ashland's offense came alive in the set, hitting .265 (15-6-34). Northwood finished the second at .083 (10-7-36).
The Eagles offense continued to get stronger in the third, hitting .391 (13-4-23). NU finished at .000 (8-8-28). AU broke the set open when the score was 12-12, scoring nine of the next 12 points to put the match away.
For the match, Northwood hit .082 (31-22-110) while Ashland finished at .208 (38-18-96). Serving was a big part of the win for the Eagles, as Ashland had seven aces to go with six errors while Northwood had zero aces and nine errors.
Krysta Kramer (Lansing, Mich./Grand Ledge) led Northwood with eight kills and a .273 attack percentage. Chelsea Watson (Bowling Green, Ohio/Niagara U.) had seven kills, while Marissa Pomavile (Livonia, Mich./Churchill) had four blocks for the Timberwolves.
Northwood will travel to Ohio Dominican Friday night (October 3). First serve is set for 7 p.m.
