Volleyball Signs Three To Letters of Intent

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University volleyball team has announced the signing of three student-athletes to National Letters of Intent.

Megan Acs (Hartline, Mich.), Lauren Bell (Lake Orion, Mich.) and Sydney Sweet (Clio, Mich.) will join the team for the 2019 season.

"We are very pleased with this class," said head coach David Shumaker "They each bring a high-level of experience and accomplishment that will serve them well here at Northwood University."

Megan Acs
Megan is an outside hitter from Hartline high school where she was a four-year varsity starter. She has also played the last six seasons for the Michigan Elite Volleyball Club. Megan received All-Conference honors each of the past three seasons.
Intended Major: Marketing
Why Megan Chose Northwood University:
"I chose Northwood University because I love the campus and the atmosphere on the volleyball team."
Coach Shumaker on Acs:
"Megan is outside hitter who hits a very heavy ball. She also has a number of off-speed shots in her tool belt."

Lauren Bell
Lauren Bell hails from Lake Orion Michigan where she played her High School volleyball team won the Division 1, MHSAA State Championship. She has played six years of club ball, the last two years for the Five-1 Volleyball Club. Lauren received All-Conference Honors this year.
Intended Major: Fashion Marketing & Management
Why Lauren Chose Northwood University:
"I love that the Northwood offers my major so that I can succeed after college. I chose Northwood because the volleyball team has a family feel that I like."
Coach Shumaker on Bell:
"Lauren has been our radar for several years. She is a natural Libero with high volleyball intelligence. Lauren reads opposing hitters well and is comfortable diving on the floor"

Sydney Sweet
Sydney is a middle blocker from Clio Michigan where she was a four-year varsity starter at Clio High School. She has played six years of club volleyball, her last two years being for the Five-1 Volleyball Club. Sydney earned all-conference honors for the past three seasons and All-region for the past two.
Why Sydney Chose Northwood University:
"I chose Northwood University because it is such a great school. Coach Dave and I have a good rapport and the team seems to have great chemistry on and off the court.
Intended Major: Accounting
Coach Shumaker on Sydney:
"Sydney is an athletic middle-blocker/Right Side hitter. She is extremely fast with a quick arm swing. She works extremely hard in transition and closes the block well."
