Cross Country Takes Second At The Northwood Invitational To Open 2025

OVERVIEW – 6^TH ANNUAL NORTHWOOD INVITATIONAL

LOCATION: Fisher Family Trails – Midland, Mich.

RECAP: Northwood men's and women's cross country kicked off their 2025 season with their annual Northwood Invitational at the Fisher Family Trails in Midland. Both Northwood teams earned runner-up finishes behind Findlay, with the men scoring 42 points and the women totaling 64.

INSIDE THE MEN'S RACE (4-MILE)

Carleb Palmreuter led all Timberwolves, taking fifth in 20:42.40 in the men's four-mile.
Northwood newcomers Matt Grindrod and Will Haw were the Timberwolves' two and three, placing sixth and 12^th at 20:45.80 and 20:57.70.
The Timberwolves placed seven athletes within the top 25, five scorers under 21:45, and seven overall.
Northwood's average time was 21:38.19 with 1-4 spread being just 18 seconds (20:42.40 to 21:00.30).
Northwood finished second overall out of seven teams with 42 points, trailing only Findlay.

INSIDE THE WOMEN'S RACE (5,000 METERS)

Northwood women's cross country placed second out of seven teams with 64 points.
Freshman Megan Gottschall led the Timberwolves with her 10^th-place, 19:45.20 finish. Returners Kaylee Locke and Kaylee Aultman round out Northwood's top three. Locke took 11^th in 19:49.00 personal record (PR) and Aultman 14^th in 20:04.30
Gottschall's finish is No. 21 while Locke's is now No. 24 on the Northwood all-time 5K cross country performers list.
Northwood had five inside the top 20, led by Gottschall's 10th-place finish. The Timberwolves' 1–5 spread was just 41 seconds (19:45.20 to 20:26.50).
The meet resulted in three Timberwolf PRs.

Northwood men's and women's cross country teams head to the Warrior Challenge next Friday (September 12). Wayne St. will host the meet at the Willow Metropark with the women's 6K starting at 5 p.m. and the men's 5-mile beginning at 5:45 p.m.
