RECAP: Northwood baseball goes 1-1 to open their series at Illinois-Springfield Sunday (February 23), dropping a tough 11-10 contest in game one before taking game two 10-3.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS (SCHEDULED FOR NINE INNINGS)

  • Northwood started the game fast, as Caden Duryea connected on a three-run home run in the first inning
  • Ben DeVries made it 4-0 in the top of the second with a solo home run, the first of his career.
  • Illinois-Springfield got on the board in the bottom of the second with three of runs that made the score 4-3.
  • Northwood put two runs on the board in response in the top of the third thanks to an RBI single by Connor McCartan and a double by Alex Jarboe.
  • The Prairie Stars came back with one in the third and two more in the fourth to tied the game at 6-6
  • DeVries continued his career-best day in the top of the fifth, hitting a three-run homer to left to get the Northwood lead back up to 9-6.
  • Once again, Springfield came back, scoring two in the fifth and one more in the sixth to tie the game once again at 9-9.
  • Northwood went back on top by two in the top of the seventh on a two-run error by UIS that put the Timberwolves on top 11-9.
  • NU was one out away from clinching the win, as UIS had two outs nobody on when the Prairie Starts put tougher a dramatic rally, going single-home run to tie the game and force extra innings.
  • After Northwood went scoreless in the top of the 10th, the first two Springfield hitters were once again retired. UIS then went single-double to earn the comeback 12-11 win.

  • Northwood started the scoring in game two in the top of the second inning, starting with an error that brought home Logan Voth.
  • Josh Getz and Beale followed with RBI singles to put Northwood on top 3-0.
  • Alex Jarboe extended the Northwood lead in the top of the fifth with an RBI double. He then came home on a Ben Narr RBI groundout that made the score 5-0.
  • Springfield got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with a single run to cut the lead to four.
  • Northwood made it 6-1 with a sacrifice fly by Voth
  • UIS got back into the game with a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth.
  • Northwood came right back with four runs in the top of the seventh, starting with a Mason Brunworth RBI single.
  • Beale then earned an RBI on an error to get the lead up to five.
  • Duryea rounded out the scoring with a two-run single to make the final 10-3.
