Baseball Pushes Win Streak To 12 With Sweep Of Kentucky Wesleyan

RECAP: Northwood pushes win streak to 12 with two victories over Kentucky Wesleyan Friday (March 28), taking game one 3-2 before taking game two 7-4.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS (SEVEN INNINGS)

  • Northwood got on the board in the first inning with an RBI single by Caden Duryea.
  • The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fifth with Myles Beale connected on a solo home run to make the score 2-0.
  • An NU error with two outs in the top of the sixth allowed to Kentucky Wesleyan runs to come home and tie the game at 2-2.
  • With two outs in the top of the seventh, a rain delay paused the action for 40 minutes.
  • After the delay Northwood needed one pitch to end the seventh before ending the game quickly in the bottom of the inning. After a leadoff double by Matthew Meyer, Northwood went bunt single and intentional walk to load the bases for Duryea The junior outfielder came through with a sacrifice fly to give Northwood the win.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS (NINE INNINGS)

  • KWC had their best hitting stretch of the weekend right away in game two, going single-single-triple to go up 2-0 just three batters into the game. Northwood held the Panthers off the board the rest of the inning for a two-run deficit.
  • The Timberwolves responded with a big second inning, starting with a Ben Narr two-run double to tie the score.
  • Ben DeVries followed with an RBI double of his own, which was followed by a Logan Voth sac fly to make the score 4-2 after two.
  • The Panthers chipped away at the lead, scoring one in the fourth and one in the sixth to tie the score at 4-4.
  • NU came through with the final rally of the weekend in the sixth as Beale plated the go-ahead run with a double.
  • Duryea added two more with a single to round out the scoring at 7-4.
  • The bullpen trip of Cody Matuz, Owen Franklin and Blake Stockford combined for five innings of relief, allowing one unearned run.
