Baseball Drops 11-8 Contest To UIndy In Super Regional Game Two

RECAP: Northwood baseball's comeback effort falls short in game two of the NCAA Midwest Super Regional Friday (May 23), as Indianapolis earns an 11-8 win to even the three game series at 1-1.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

  • Indianapolis got a two-out, two-run single in the top of the first inning to take an early lead.
  • One of the key stretches in the game came in the bottom of the first. Northwood had the bases loaded and no outs. Alex Jarboe hit a line drive down the left field line that had home run distance but was just foul. NU then followed with a strikeout and a double play, which kept the score at 2-0.
  • UIndy plated three in the second and one in the third to go up 6-0.
  • Northwood got on the board in the bottom of the third on a Logan Voth solo home run that cut the lead to five.
  • Josh Getz added an RBI single later in the inning to make the score 6-2.
  • The Greyhounds connected on a solo home run of their own in the top of the fourth push their lead back to 7-2.
  • Caden Duryea connected on the first of his two RBI doubles in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to four.
  • In the top of the fifth, UIndy had two outs and no one on, the Greyhounds got a single and a Northwood error. The three-run homer that followed plated three unearned runs and made the score 10-3.
  • NU did not go quietly, putting together a big eighth inning to get back into the game. Voth brought home the first run of the eighth on an RBI single.
  • A wild pitch then brought home Ben DeVries, which was followed by Duryea's second RBI double of the day that made the score 10-6.
  • Drew Charters followed with an RBI double of his own to get NU within two.
  • Jarboe then came through with an RBI single that got the Timberwolves within two at 10-8.
  • NU still had two runners on in the eighth with five runs in but were unable to get any closer.
  • Indianapolis led off the top of the ninth with a solo home run to get their lead back to three.
  • Northwood went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the ninth to send the super-regional to a decisive third game.
