Baseball Ends Season With Heartbreaking Loss To East Stroudsburg At NCAA Championships

RECAP: No. 12 Northwood baseball sees its historic season come to an end with a heartbreaking 9-6 loss to No. 8 East Stroudsburg Sunday afternoon (June 1).
GAME HIGHLIGHTS
- Northwood started the game fast, going up 1-0 three batters into the game on a throwing error on a stolen base attempt that scored Myles Beale from third.
- Later in the inning, Josh Getz made it 2-0 on a safety squeeze bunt that brought home Drew Charters.
- In the third inning, NU extended their advantage on an RBI single from Brendan Hammer.
- The Timberwolves added another run in the fourth thanks to a sacrifice fly by Charters to make the score 4-0.
- East Stroudsburg got on the board in a big way in the bottom of the fourth inning, plating five runs to take their first lead of the day at 5-4.
- Northwood came right back in the top of he fifth, starting with an RBI fielder's choice by Ben DeVries that tied the score at 5-5.
- Caden Duryea put Northwood on top later in the inning at 6-5 thanks to a bases loaded walk.
- The Timberwolves had multiple chances to add on to their lead down the stretch, getting a runner in scoring position in each of the final three innings without scoring. In all, Northwood left a total of 13 runners on base.
- The lead stayed at 6-5 until the bottom of the ninth, when the Warriors started the inning with a walk followed by a pair of infield singles. ESU then connected on a walk-off grand slam to earn the win 9-6.

NORTHWOOD NOTES
- This was the first baseball team in program history to reach the NCAA Championships.
- Beale broke the school record for run a season today, ending the year with 73. He already held the school record for runs in a career (218).
