RECAP: Softball faced Wayne St. (Neb.) and American International on Tuesday (March 11) on day six of their trip to Florida. In game one versus the Wildcats, Northwood's offense was silent as the Timberwolves were shut out 5-0. In game two, the bats came alive in a 16-0 thumping of American International.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Wildcats came out hunting hittable pitches. Three straight hits to start the game put WSC in front 1-0.
  • The Wildcats added two more in the first with a single to left center and a sac fly, 3-0 WSC.
  • Northwood's offense never could get the big hit. The sixth was Northwood's best scoring opportunity, a bases-loaded, two-out situation ended in a strikeout and WSC retaining the 3-0 lead.
  • WSC extended their lead to 5-0 in their half of the sixth. The Wildcats scored off of an RBI Double and a single after a double opened to right center field opened the inning.
  • Northwood's offense went quiet in the seventh, falling 5-0 to WSC.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • The bats came alive for the Timberwolves against American International. Delanie Gale tripled home Ashlyn Lundquist to start it for Northwood, 1-0 NU.
  • Ashley Ziel followed Gale up with a single up the middle to bring her home, 2-0 NU.
  • Northwood capped their first inning with a sac fly from Payton Shafsnitz, scoring Ziel, 3-0 NU.
  • In the second, Lundquist doubled to left center to bring in Carney Salo and Lakyn Karr, 5-0 NU.
  • The Timberwolves broke it open for good in the third. A nine-run third gave the Timberwolves a 14-0 lead. A three-run homer by Delanie Gale and a two-run triple from Saylar Cuthrell highlighted the big inning.
  • Northwood added their final two runs in the fourth. A misthrow and an RBI single down the left field line from Ella Wagner capped the day as Northwood won convincingly 16-0 in five innings.
