Softball Sweeps Thomas More As Gregg Sauve Becomes All-Time Winningest Coach In Program History With No. 232

RECAP: Northwood softball earned a convincing series sweep at Thomas More on Sunday (April 13). With the 12-4 and 11-1 wins, Head Coach Gregg Sauve became Northwood's all-time winningest coach in program history with 232 wins.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- Saylar Cuthrell's sac fly in the top of the second opened the scoring for Northwood, 1-0 NU. Abby Robinson came in to score on the play.
- A two-out, two-run single from Gabby Schloop put NU in front 3-0. Northwood tallied three runs on two hits and an error.
- Thomas More brought it within one with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second, 3-2 NU.
- Northwood added two more in the fourth. Cuthrell and Schloop came through yet again, going single, then an RBI groundout to put NU up 5-2. Gianna Fantin and Gage Lambert scored on the plays.
- Schloop tabbed her fourth and fifth RBIs of the game with a double to score Cuthrell and Chloe Cooper from second and third, 7-2 NU.
- Ashley Ziel doubled to bring home Schloop two batters later, 8-2 NU.
- NU added RBI doubles from Ashlyn Lundquist and Abby Robinson to put the game away in the seventh, 12-2 NU.
- Thomas More scored twice in the seventh to make it the final 12-4. With the win, Gregg Sauve tied the record for wins for a head coach at Northwood with 231. Suzanne Brown set the record during her tenure from 1993-2000.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- In game two, Northwood's offense started early, scoring twice in the first. Lundquist and Delanie Gale put NU's leadoff hitters on before a walk, then a sac fly from Fantin gave NU the 1-0 lead.
- Payton Schafsnitz walked in another run, scoring Gale from third. Northwood led 2-0 after one.
- Northwood blew the game open in the third, scoring six, beginning with Fantin's single to score Ziel from third, 3-0 NU.
- Gage Lambert followed Fantin with an RBI before a bases-loaded walk from Schloop two batters later brought her in, 5-0 NU.
- Ashlyn Lundquist's sac fly kept the third for NU going, scoring Schafsnitz. A walk to Gale brought Ziel up for the second time in the inning. Ziel capped the inning's scoring with a two-out, two-run single to bring home Schloop and Cuthrell, 8-0 NU.
- Thomas More added an RBI double in the third, scoring the Saints' only run of the game, 8-1 NU.
- NU put the run rule in effect with a double from Ziel in the fifth. Lundquist's lead-off walk came around to score on her RBI double, 9-1 NU.
- Northwood tacked on in the fifth. Carney Salo's bases-loaded walk brought in one before Delani Paulsell's first career RBI capped NU's scoring at 11.
- Brittani Mutter came in in the fifth to close out Northwood's 20th win of the year. This is the fifth straight 20+ win season for the Timberwolves.
- The win marks the 232nd win of Head Coach Gregg Sauve's tenure, becoming the all-time winningest coach in program history, surpassing Suzanne Brown (1993-2000).
