Volleyball Loses 3-2 At #19 Grand Valley State

INSIDE THE MATCH

  • Northwood started the match by scoring first of the six of the first eight points. GVSU responded, eventually tying the score 8-8. The Lakers kept the momentum going and took a 13-9 lead. Grand Valley State was up 16-11 when the Timberwolves made a big push. NU scored 10 straight points to go up 21-16. Northwood eventually took the opening set 25-20.
  • The Lakers responded to dropping the opening set by controlling the second from the start. GVSU scored nine of the first 11 points and stayed on top the rest of the way. Grand Valley State took the set 25-10 to level the match 1-1.
  • With the Lakers leading the third set 12-11, GVSU scored five of the next six points to take a 17-12 advantage. Northwood got no closer than four points the rest of the set, which was won by GV 25-18.
  • Northwood came out fast in the fourth set, taking an early 7-2 lead. The Timberwolves led 13-5 when the Lakers started to chip away at the advantage. GVSU eventually tied the score at 19-19. The Timberwolves had four set points before finally taking the set 28-26 to force a fifth set.
  • Grand Valley State set the tone for the fifth set by scoring five of the first six points. NU got back within two at 8-6, but that is as close as they would get the rest of the way. The Lakers took the set 15-9 to close out the match.
