Men's Soccer Earns 5-0 Win Over Malone

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's soccer team earned a 5-0 win over Malone University on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 20).

The Timberwolves improve to 3-1 on the year, 2-1 in the GLIAC. The Pioneers fall to 1-4 overall, 1-2 in the GLIAC.

Adam Thomas (High Wycombe, England / John Hampden) put the Timberwolves on the board in the 15th minute when Connor Cole (Plymouth, Mich. / Salem) moved the ball down the right side for Thomas to put in the back of the net.

Mayowa Olufeko (London, England / Welling) earned his fourth goal of the season when he finished in a deflection off a corner kick in the 45th minute. The Timberwolves  pulled ahead 3-0 on a goal scored by James DeCosemo (Stokesley, England) on a cross from Dominic Hart (Rotherham, England) who served the ball in from the left side. NU increased the lead to 4-0 on a goal by Andrew Nugent (Ipswich, England). Nugent finished a cross from Zachary Bakos (Linden, Mich. / Linden) on the right side at 78:59. With just ten seconds remaining in regulation, Olufeko netted his second goal of the contest on a feed from Nugent to give the Timberwolves the 5-0 win.

For the match, NU out-shot the Pioneers (23-11) and both teams registered five corner kicks. Keeper Johannes Sterobo (Odense, Denmark / Tornbjerg) recorded five saves in the shutout.

Northwood will be back home next weekend, taking on Tiffin on Friday (Sept. 25) at 2 p.m. and Findlay on Sunday (Sept. 27) at Noon. CLICK HERE for a complete list of promotions throughout the season.
