Women's Basketball Falls At No. 1 Ashland 68-43

The Northwood University women's basketball team dropped a 68-43 contest to No. 1 Ashland Monday night (December 17).

Ashland improves to 12-0 overall, 5-0 in the GLIAC.  Northwood stands at 5-4 overall, 3-2 in the GLIAC. 

The Eagles led throughout the first half, but a late surge in the final minutes broke the game open.  Ashland scored seven points in the final 2:34 to turn an eight point lead into a 35-20 advantage at halftime.  Northwood shot 30.4 percent (7-23) from the floor in the half, compared to 45.5 percent for Ashland.

The Timberwolves cut the Ashland lead to 12 early the second half, but it was all Eagles the rest of the way.  Ashland led by as many as 28 in the final 20 minutes.

For the game, Northwood shot 30.0 percent overall (15-50) while Ashland finished at 45.0 percent (27-60). Rebounding proved to be the key stat to the game, as the Eagles finished with a 50-20 edge on the boards.  That advantage allowed Ashland to finish with a 26-2 edge in second chance points.

Sarah Spring (Brighton, Mich.) led Northwood with nine points.  Jordyn Nurenberg (St. John's, Mich.) came off the bench to score seven.

Northwood will travel to Lake Erie Wednesday (December 19).  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
