Women's Basketball Claims 53-40 Road Win Over Lake Erie
The Northwood University women's basketball team earned a 53-40 road win over Lake Erie Wednesday afternoon (December 19).
Northwood is now 6-4 overall, 4-2 in the GLIAC. Lake Erie falls to 2-6 overall, 0-5 in the GLIAC.
Lake Erie scored the first four points of the game, but Northwood responded by scoring the next 10 to earn a lead they would not give up. The Timberwolves led by as many as 11 in the opening half before settling for a 26-18 advantage at the break. Neither team shot well in the half – Northwood finished at 33.3 percent (9-27), while Lake Erie finished at 29.6 percent (8-27).
The Storm connected on a 3-pointer to open the scoring of the second half and cut the lead to five, but Northwood responded once again to the early points with a run. NU scored the next 10 to make the lead 36-21. Lake Erie got no closer than nine points the rest of the way.
For the game, Northwood shot 32.0 percent from the floor (16-50). Lake Erie finished at 30.0 percent (15-50). Both teams shot it well from beyond the arc – Northwood went 8-19 (42.1 percent) while Lake Erie finished 5-11 (45.5 percent). The foul line proved costly for the Storm, as they went 5-15 from the line (33.3 percent).
Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich./Our Lady of the Lakes) led the way for Northwood, finishing with a game-high 17 points. Jade Ledy (Marquette, Mich.) had her best game as a Timberwolf, finishing with 12 points while going 4-9 from 3-point range. Gabrielle Rivette (Fenton, Mich.) added 10 points and six rebounds. Kaitlin Susan (Grand Rapids, Mich./Byron Center) had six rebounds, six assists, two blocks and two steals for Northwood.
Northwood returns to action December 28 in a neutral site contest against Urbana. The game, which will take place at Wayne State University, will get under way at 1 p.m.
