Women's Basketball Falls To Findlay 84-76

The Northwood University women's basketball team fell to Findlay 84-76 Saturday afternoon (December 7).

Northwood falls to 3-3 on the season, 1-1 in the GLIAC. Findlay remains unbeaten at 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the GLIAC.

The game was a battle from the very beginning, with six ties in the first eleven minutes. Northwood then went on a 12-0 run to take the lead 36-27 at the 5:20 mark. NU took a 43-39 lead to the locker room, despite the Oilers shooting 48.3 percent (14-29) from the floor. The Timberwolves shot 40.5 percent (15-37) and went 7-7 from the free throw line in the opening period.

Findlay scored four points in under a minute to tie the game at 43. NU went on another run (8-2) to reclaim the lead 51-45 at the sixteen minute mark. The Oilers fought back to go on a run of their own scoring 13 points to Northwood's six to claim the lead 58-57 at 9:58. The next three minutes went back and forth, resulting in seven ties to eventually leave the score at 68 with 6:42 remaining in the game. Northwood was unable to reclaim the lead from that point on. The Timberwolves shot 34.6 percent (9-26) in the second half, compared to Findlay's 56.5 percent (13-23).

For the game, Northwood shot 38.1 percent (24-63) from the floor - including 40 percent (12-30) from beyond the arc. The Timberwolves grabbed 20 offensive rebounds to out-rebounded the Oilers 42-27. NU also out-scored the Oilers in the paint holding a 22-6 edge.

Sarah Susan (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Byron Center) led all scorers with 25 points and turned in back-to-back stellar performances for the Timberwolves, scoring a total of 53 points on the week. Gabrielle Rivette (Fenton, Mich. / Fenton) added 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Kaitlin Susan (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Byron Center) grabbed 11 boards and dished out five assists in the contest. Lauren Robak (Clarkston, Mich. / Our Lady of the Lakes) also scored in double figures with 10 points to go along with two steals and a block.

Northwood will travel to Ohio next week, taking on Walsh on Thursday (Dec. 12) and Malone on Saturday (Dec. 14). Thursday's tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
