Women's Tennis Earns 5-4 Win At Wayne State

The Northwood women's tennis team improved to 3-0 on the season with a hard-fought 5-4 win over Wayne State Wednesday afternoon (September 12).

The Timberwolves are also 3-0 in the GLIAC. WSU falls to 1-1 overall and in the GLIAC.

Northwood got off to a good start in doubles, winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to lead 2-1 heading into singles. But Wayne State fought hard in singles, earning wins at the two through four positions to even the score at 4-4. Northwood clinched the victory thanks to Mariia Avksenko at the No. 5 position, who won 7-6 (4), 7-6 (1) to clinch the victory.

In the match, Susan Alcaraz and Inesa Asatryan each went 2-0 to lead the way for the Timberwolves.

Northwood has their home opener Friday (September 14) against Walsh. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
